April 2011 Storm Damages Metro Atlanta Homes

Posted in Atlanta Hail Damage Information, Claims Guide with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on April 17, 2011 by HAPS

Another large group of storms hammered the Metro Atlanta area in April 2011 causing hail and wind damage to roofs in many areas.  Our inspectors have seen some significant hail damage in certain areas which confirm storm reports from local media.  This is the third big storm this year so the hail and wind damage claims business is picking up dramatically.

The April 2011 storm dropped hail up to 2.5 inches in certain areas with many homeowners reporting hail “covering their driveway”.   We are finding approvable damage in certain zones; and we are seeing an increase in hail and wind claims being approved in these zones.  If you would like to know if your home is in the hail area call 404-933-6610 or Click Here to fill out a reply form to set up an appointment with one of our claims reps to discuss your options.

Unfortunately, we are also seeing a lot of out of town roofers coming into town to work these storms.  We advise homeowners to be careful when deciding on using a roofer/claims services company to represent them during the storm.  While the out of state companies are adept at determining damage and getting claims approved….once the storms are done they leave town and the homeowner is stuck if they have a problem with their roof.  We see it ALL the time.

Since Roofing Claims are picking up we would like to take some time in this article to cover a few topics which we see every day, but the average homeowner has little knowledge of….

1. When we ask homeowners if they have had their roof checked (for free) to determine if they have suffered from hail damage to your home so many homeowners answer this question with the simple answer of “I don’t have leaks” :  Truthfully, hail doesn’t generally cause leaks at the time of the storm unless we see softball sized or broken windows.  Hail damage does cause a breakdown of the shingle which eventually allows water to pass through and damage your home.

If this is the case why do insurance companies pay for roof replacements if the hail damage doesn’t cause leaks.  The answer is actually simple.  If hail damages your shingles, you don’t have leaks now…but you will.  The insurance companies pay to replace the roof to prevent further damage to the interior of your home.  Waiting for leaks could add up to thousands if drywall, painting, mold, insulation, and/or furniture gets damaged.

2. My neighbor got a new roof so I must have hail damage or wind damage:  Not true.  We see storm damage on one house and little damage on the neighbor’s home quite oftern.  Much is determined by many factors including age of the roof, tree cover, type of shingles, direction of storm, location of home, and obviously size of the hail.  The only way to determine if you have storm damage to your roof is to have it inspected by a company with EXPERIENCE in dealing with storm claims.

3. I was told by a roofer he/she could see that I have hail damage from a ground inspection.  This is crazy unless you live in Texas or Oklahoma where the hail is often big enough to go through the roof.  These roofers are saving time, playing the numbers game, and having you put a claim on file without regard to your relationship with your insurance company.  Don’t put in a claim without an inspection.  Call 404-933-6610 if you would like your roof inspected in the Metro Atlanta area.  We have built many roofs in areas such as Alpharetta, Acworth, Atlanta, Austell, Cumming, Dunwoody, Fairburn, Flowery Branch, Gainesville, John’s Creek, Lawrenceville, Lilburn, Marietta, McDonough, Roswell, Sandy Springs, Smyrna, Snellville, Sugar Hill, and Suwanee.

4. My roofer guaranteed me I would get approved:  Nope, not true.  The insurance company approval is up to the adjuster, not the roofer.   While we know what should be approved, there is no guarantee.  Approval of hail damage for roof claims is totally subjective opinion based on the opinion of the adjuster; and I promise you…the opinions are all over the board.

5. I’ve been denied so I know I don’t have damage;  This one is tricky.  Because adjusters opinions are different you may have one say you have damage and another say you do.  Have you ever had different feelings/opinions on bad day vs good days?  Also, our experience shows that approval rates are much higher right after the storm vs. 1-2 years after the storm.

6. I don’t need a company experienced in claims services to represent me.  I’ll do it on my own. – Go ahead, but understand you may have just decreased your chances of approval by 30-40%.  Rarely do we see a roof with damage on every shingle.   It’s easy to find no damage on a roof with a lot of damage.

7. All roofers are the same.  Not true.  We see some ugly stuff out there.  Scammers who take the money and run, partners who fight, companies who cut corners on materials or use inexperienced labor at cheap prices in order to give away deductibles, fly by night companies who don’t deal with complaints.

8. The cheapest price is the best deal:  This applies in just about any industry…You get what you pay for.  We’ve seen roofs with no felt, 2 nails per shingle, no flashing at the chimneys or walls, no starter shingles, inadequate ventilaton, no caulking at exposed nails (ridge cap) etc.  Don’t make this mistake.  The roof is one of the most important parts of your home.  Do it right.  After all, a good roof should last 20 years with no storm damage.  If you don’t believe us, talk to someone who has leaks.

9. I want my roof done without paying a deductible: See #8.  Also, see House Bill 423 regarding new legislation relating to this activity.

10. I’ve had my insurance for 20 years without putting in a claim.  This will help me get approved:  Not true.  The adjuster doesn’t look up how long you’ve had the policy.  They look up if you’ve put in a claim and if so, they look at the inspection results and pictures to see if your roof has been incurred more damage or if you made repairs from previous claim payments.

If you would like to know if your home has hail or wind damage call HAPS at 404-933-6610 or visit our company website at http://www.homeassetprotectionservices.com to arrange for a free inspection.  If we find damage, we’ll help you through the entire process.  If you don’t have damage, we’ll tell you you don’t.  If you need maintainence even if you don’t have damage, we’ll let you know.

Your shingles are supposed to last 20-50 years, but other parts of your roof don’t.   In fact, we suggest roof maintainence every 2-3 years.  With this plan we change pipe boots (they rot), recaulk areas needed (caulk only holds up for a relatively short period of time, inspect flashing (it can move), and deal with rotten siding issues.

We hope this article helps you understand a little more about our industry.  We hope you’ll call us at 404-933-6610 if you would like an inspection of your roof, if you have questions regarding your home, or if you have other home improvement projects where you are looking for someone you can trust for honest opinions, quality workmanship, and competitive pricing.

March 26,2011 Hail and Wind Storms Damage Metro Atlanta area, hail claims expected to rise dramatically.

Posted in Atlanta Hail Damage Information, Claims Guide with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on March 27, 2011 by HAPS

Severe thunderstorms pounded the Metro Atlanta area on Saturday causing major Hail and Wind Damage across the Metro Atlanta area.

Early reports show hundreds of thousands of dollars of hail damage incurred to homes, vehicles, and other property throughout the area.  Hail up to 4″ in size will bring catastrophic insurance adjusters in town just to help keep up with the influx of insurance claims to be filed.

Homeowners who have incurred damage will need to move quickly to avoid long waits for insurance adjusters to schedule appointments.  It can be an overwhelming process for someone with no experience in this area.

At HAPS we have tremendous experience in this area.  We’ve helped homeowners get hundreds of thousands of dollars in claims approvals from hail and wind damage.  We have great relationships with the insurance companies, we have great relationships with our clients, and we have great expertise in making sure you are represented fairly.

There are many out of state companies who will rush into town,  push to get your claim filed, cause man made damage to try and cheat the insurance companies, take your checks and run, use work crews with little or no experience…and then leave town to never be found if you have problems with your roof in the future.

We are locally based in Gwinnett County, we have climbed and inspected hundreds of roofs, we invest in high tech reports to verify when and where the hail storms hit your area, we know the difference between hail damage and blisters on your shingles, we are honest in our opinions of damage, we don’t ask you to file a claim unless you have at least a 60% chance of approval, we meet with the insurance companies to make sure YOU are represented fairly, we use experienced crews with decades of roofing experience, and we go over and beyond in our roofing process to make sure your roof will last.

If you would like an honest opinion on your roof call 404-933-6610 to schedule an appointment today or CLICK HERE to contact us.  One of our claims managers will meet with you and help you through the entire claims process.  Our experienced roof inspectors will assess your damage and advise you on your chances of approval.

If you suspect you may have incurred hail or wind damage from the March, 2011 severe thunderstorms in the Metro Atlanta area; you need to act fast.  Our experience has shown that the early claims get approved more often than the claims filed months after the storm since supervisors don’t have time to micro manage adjusters during the busy periods.

Call 404-933-6610 ASAP to set an appointment today or visit our website at http://www.homeassetprotectionservices.com for more information.

Do I have Hail Damage on My Roof?

Posted in Atlanta Hail Damage Information with tags , , , on December 1, 2009 by HAPS

This is a great question if you live in the Metro Atlanta area.  Thousands of homes in the Metro Atlanta area did receive hail damage to their roofs during the storms of 2009.

So how do you know if you have damage.  It’s really an easy question to answer.  You are able to get your home inspected for FREE from our company, Home Asset Protection Services, LLC (HAPS) by calling 404-933-6610  to schedule for a free inspection (if you live in an area impacted by the storms).

We deal with the insurance companies and adjusters on a daily basis.  We know what the adjusters are looking for so we give honest advice as to your potential for getting a hail damage claim approved.

We pre inspect the homes so you don’t have to file a claim UNLESS you have a a chance of getting your claim approved.  Our company does not believe in having homeowners put in claims if the chances for approval are low.  Why?  Because we not only preinspect your home, we also meet with the adjuster to represent YOU if we believe you have enough damage to warrant approval.

We won’t advise you to put in a claim if you don’t have a chance  because we don’t want to waste our time meeting adjusters for homes which don’t have damage.  More importantly, we don’t want you to put a claim on record if we don’t believe it’s necessary.

Many “storm chasers” believe they should get as many claims filed as possible in hopes of getting a small percentage approved.   It’s a numbers game to them…often at your expense.  We don’t approve of these methods at Home Asset Protection Services.  Our approval rate is very high because we do thorough inspections, we know what each insurance company needs for approval, and we have built a reputation with the insurance companies as a company who knows what we’re doing.

Can you do it yourself?  The easy answer is yes, but the correct answer is no.  Do you know the difference between hail damage and mechanical damage?  Do you know the difference between old hail and new hail damage?  Do you know how much damage is needed for approval?  Most homeowners can’t answer yes to these questions.

Our advice is to be smart about your decision to file a hail damage claim.  Why not get a FREE INPECTION if you have nothing to lose?  At the very least you’ll know if your roof survived the storms.  And if you potentially have damage, we’ll assist you from start to finish.

Call Home Asset Protection Services, LLC at 404-933-6610 to discuss your home and determine if you are a candidate for a roof replacement paid for by your insurance company.

If you give us your location we can do a search to determine if your area was impacted by the Atlanta area hail storms of 2009.  If our search shows hail damage occurred in your area, we will preinspect your home and give you an honest opinion of the potential for approval if you do decide to file a claim.

Would you like $3500-15,000 to replace your roof?  If you rightfully deserve a roof replacement, you need to get your home inspected soon.

Hail Damage Atlanta Claims Guide

Posted in Atlanta Hail Damage Information, Claims Guide with tags , , , , , , on November 18, 2009 by HAPS

This is a quick guide to making sure you follow the proper steps to getting your hail damage claim taken care of without having to worry about having problems with your insurance company.

Understand, there are two kinds of companies involved in this business.  First, you have companies who want you to file a claim no matter what in hopes you will get approved.  Second, there are companies who want to make sure you have hail damage before you put in a claim.

The first kind of company is playing the numbers game.  They believe getting more claim contracts filed will result in more approvals irregardless of approval percentage.  They don’t always pre inspect your home carefully and they aren’t concerned about you getting denied with a claim on your record.

The second kind of company is definitely your best choice.  They do pre inspect your home carefully because they don’ t want to waste time meeting with your adjuster if they know damage is not apparent.  Also, they don’t want you to file a claim if you don’t qualify, and they don’t want to get a reputation with the insurance company of being a company who isn’t concerned with the expense the insurance company must incur to pay adjusters to inspect your home.

While not verified, it is assumed that the more professional companies have a better reputation with the insurance companies resulting in better service during the claims process.

When deciding what YOU need to do to find out if your home is a potential candidate for a hail damage claim approval, we suggest you use a company who preinspects your home and offers an honest opinion of their findings.  These companies will give you a more detailed explanation of their inspection along with reasons why you should or should not file a claim.

At Home Asset Protection Services, we offer detailed and honest pre inspections before we suggest you file a claim.  If we don’t find damage, we don’t want you to file a claim.  Why?  Because we don’t want to have to come back out to your home to meet with an adjuster if we know your roof will not be approved.  Our inspections are free and our adjuster meetings are free.  We even take pictures of your roof and show them to you so you can see the damage.   It would’nt make sense for our company to spend an additional 1-3 hours meeting with an adjuster if we know your roof won’t be approved.

Next, you want the hail damage claims representative to explain the entire process so you understand what filing a claim entails.  The claims representatives should explain the entire process from start to finish so you’ll understand the steps involved in filing your claim.  At Home Asset Protection Services, LLC, we do just that.  Our representative will show you the steps to filing and processing your claim and we will offer you assistance through the entire process.  We will help you in file the intial claim, we will explain the next step after the claim is filed, and we will show you examples of approved claims to help you understand how the payment process works.  We will also give you an estimate on the time it will take for the entire claim to be filed, inspected, approved, paid, and completed.  Finally, upon approval, we will show you samples of shingles so you can determine the best option and color for your new roof.

We don’t suggest you do this on your own.  It can be a complicated headache without professional assistance; and your chances for approval are cut in half without representation.  We ensure you are represented fairly and we assist you in getting the paperwork filed properly.  We also explain the claim breakdown to help you understand exactly what you are getting from the insurance company.

We also ensure the work is done to specification in a timely manner.  We generally complete the work within one week from the time you get initial proceeds from your insurance company.

Overall, expect the entire process to take one month.  After you  file the claim you will hear from an adjuster who will schedule an appointment to inspect your roof.  The adjuster will generally schedule an appointment within 1-2 weeks from the date you file the claim.  If approved during the inspection, it will take between a few hours to a few weeks to receive an inspection report and an initial check (if approved).  Depending on the amount you recieve, it will take between 1 day and 2 weeks to get your initial check endorsed and deposited. [NOTE: On larger claims amounts the check may be issued to you AND your mortgage company.  In the case of the latter, it can take up to 2 weeks to get your check endorsed by your mortgage company.]  After funds get deposited and paid to your hail damage claims services company i.e. roofer, it will take between 1 – 2 weeks to get the actual work done on your roof.  When the work is completed your contractor will issue a final invoice for the completed work.  When submitted to your insurance company, it will take between a few days and a couple of weeks to get your final check from the insurance company.  Finally, depending on who is named on the check, it can take between 2 days and 2 weeks to get final check endorsed and deposited.

As you can see this is a long process which requires great attention and professionalism.  At Home Asset Protection services we understand these time frames and we do everything possible to do most of the work so you don’t have to spend precious time dealing with this tedious process.

Would you rather do this all yourself risking the chance of getting your claim approved and not getting fair compensation for your claim; or would you prefer to have a professional company with experience handling the claim for you to ensure you get fair representation, fair compensation, and professional service on the replacement of your roof?

Call Home Asset Protection Services, LLC (HAPS) at 404-933-6610 to speak with one of our representatives about how we can help you determine if you should file a claim on your roof as a result of hail damage.

We get most of our jobs from referrals, so our goal is to make sure you are satisified.  It’s what keeps us in business….because in this business, reputation of professionalism and quality are of utmost importance.

If you live in the Metro Atlanta area, we want to hear from you soon.

Have a great day.

Determining if your Atlanta Home has Hail Damage

Posted in Atlanta Hail Damage Information with tags , , , , on November 3, 2009 by HAPS

As a homeowner, it is difficult to determine if you’ve had hail damage on your roof.  As a homeowner you don’t usually climb on your roof to inspect for damage after a storm, and most likely you don’t know what to look for.

Hail Spot

If you’ve seen roofs being replace in your area then you may have been hit by the storms in February, April, or June 2009.

We don’t advise you to put in a claim on your property until you’ve had a claims specialist pre inspect your home to determine if you may qualify for a roof replacement from your insurance company.

Our team of professionals offer FREE inspections of your roof to determine the amount of damage you may have incurred from the storms of 2009.  If we believe you may qualify for an insurance replacement, we advise you to file a claim with your insurance company.  Our professionals will assist you in filing the claim, meet with the adjuster to represent YOU, assist you in getting the check endorsed (often complicated), and make sure the work is done correctly and in a timely manner.

The determination of having enough damage for a full roof replacement is totally up to the adjuster, however; it is best to have a company to represent you during the inspection.

If you live in the Metro Atlanta area and you think you could possibly have damage to your roof, call Home Asset Protection Services, LLC at 404-933-6610 to set up an appointment with one of our professionals to meet with you, do a free pre inspection, and assist you through the entire claims process from start to finish.

Hail Storm Damage to Roofs Across Atlanta Area

Posted in Atlanta Hail Damage Information with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on May 26, 2009 by HAPS

In 2009 the Atlanta, Georgia metro area has experienced a tremendous amount of hail storms causing hail damage to homes and cars across the Metro Atlanta area.

Hail has ranged from pea sized, dime sized, quarter sized, golf ball sized, and even baseball sized resulting in thousands of homes and cars damaged from these hail storms.

While car damage is evident, homeowners often fail to realize that hail damage has occurred on their roof. The impact of hail damage to your roof can be quite expensive if you don’t have your home inspected and repaired quickly. Roof leaks, Wood Rot, Mold, and wall damage are just a few problems which can occur to your home if you have a hail damaged roof.

It is the homeowner’s responsibility to ensure that their home is protected if hail damage has occurred. In many cases your homeowners insurance will pay for full replacement of your roof (less deductible) if you’ve experienced hail damage. If you wait until you notice water leaks from your roof you may have waited too long to have your roof replacement covered by your insurance company.

Your insurance company will not contact you to remind you to have your home inspected. In fact, in many cases your insurance company and adjusters will try to prove just the opposite…that your roof is not damaged enough to warrant a claim being paid, or your claim amount should only cover the bare minimum for repair of your hail damaged roof.

If you have had hailstorms in your area you need a qualified professional to inspect your home and represent YOU during the entire claims and re-roof process.

At HOME ASSET PROTECTION SERVICES, LLC (HAPS), we do just that.

We offer a FREE inspection of your home to determine if hail damage has occurred to your roof. If damage has occurred, we assist you during the entire claims process by offering the following services:

1. Free Home Inspection for Hail Damage.

2. Assistance in filing and processing a claim with your homeowners insurance company.

3. Meet with insurance adjuster to ensure you receive fair compensation for replacement value of your roof.

4. Upon approval, we meet with you to select quality shingles which protect and beautify your home.

5. Arrange for new roof to be installed from qualified LOCAL roofer, and keep you informed during the entire process.

Let us handle it all to protect your assets. Once approved, the only decisions you will have to make is what color shingles you want and if you want any special upgrades.

If you have had hailstorms in your area, it is very important that you have someone with experience to represent you during this entire process. It is equally important that homeowners act quickly if hail storms have occurred in your area. Insurance companies generally only pay claims within a short period of time from the actual storm. DON’T WAIT UNTIL IT’S TOO LATE!

If you have hail damage and don’t have an inspection done, you could end up having to replace your roof at YOUR expense, and this expense can cost thousands of dollars, quite often with NO ASSISTANCE from your insurance company.

Please have your home inspected if you have had hail storms in your area, especially if you have seen neighbors homes re-roofed recently. Call 404-933-6610 to arrange for a FREE inspection of your home if you suspect hail damage to your home. It could save you thousands of dollars, it can give you piece of mind knowing your roof and your rights are protected, and it can protect one of your most valuable assets….your home.
