I’ve been denied on my Hail Damage Claim?

See 2011 Update at end of article)

Many homeowners have seen most of their neighbors get new roofs from the hail storms in Atlanta of 2008-2011 only to be denied by their insurance company.  We see it quite often.

How does this happen?  Because the opinion of whether your home has damage or not is up to the adjuster who inspects your home.  It’s a subjective opinion based on what the adjuster believes is adequate damage to pay for your roof to be replaced.

Each insurance company has a requirement for the amount of hail “dings” they require in a 10′ x 10′ section of your roof (called a square).  Requirements vary from 6 “dings” up to 16″ dings per square.  We know what insurance companies require, so feel free to contact us at 404-933-6610 if you are interested in knowing the requirements of your insurance company.

We’ve run across many homeowners who have been denied once, twice, or in some cases…three times by adjusters who have inspected their roofs.  It’s often legitimate to complain when everyone but you got a new roof.,,sometimes it’s not.

There was a good article in the AJC about homeowners who have complained about their insurer treating them unfairly during their claim.  CLICK HERE to read the article.  It also gives information about filing a complaint with the State Insurance commission.  We won’t name names, but we have a good idea who gets the most complaints based on our dealings with the insurance companies.

If you haven’t had your home inspected and you haven’t put in a claim, we strongly suggest you have representation throughout the process.  First, you need a thorough pre inspection to determine if you have enough damage to put in a claim.  Next, you NEED someone to get up on the roof with the adjuster to make sure you are fairly represented during the inspection.  Finally, if approved, you need someone with experience to make sure you have been compensated fairly for your Hail Damage claim.

Home Asset Protection Services offers all of these services, and our pre inspection and adjuster meetings are FREE of charge.  If we do a pre inspection and find damage we are more than happy to represent you during the adjuster inspection to help you get your claim approved.  If we don’t find damage, we don’t want to waste time on a roof that will not get approved.  This keeps you from putting in a claim if you don’t need to, and it increases your chances for approval.

Also, during our pre inspection we take pictures to show you the damage we find.  This helps you make the decision to move forward and file the claim when you see that damage did occur from the recent Hail Storms in the Metro Atlanta area.

If you are interested in finding out if your roof may qualify for replacement from hail damage, call at 404-933-6610 or us or CLICK HERE to set up a consultation or pre inspection appointment.  Don’t delay as time could be running out to file a claim from these storms.

If you’ve been denied on your claim, we’ll check out your roof and give an honest opinion.  If we find damage, we’ll represent if you decide to have an aduster come out for a second inspection.  Sometimes persistence pays off.  It could be worth thousands of dollars to you.

UPDATE (May 2011):  In early 2011 a few storms hit the Metro Atlanta area.  We’re seeing approval rates skyrocket due to the recent storms.  If you were denied in the past year this is the best time to revisit a roof inspection to see if you can get approved (if you have damage).  Historically, approval rates are very high right after the storm.  We be glad to discuss why if you give us a call.  Now is the time to have your roof inspected!!! Call George at 404-933-6610 to discuss your options.

Hail Storm Damage to Roofs Across Atlanta Area

Posted in Atlanta Hail Damage Information with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on May 26, 2009 by HAPS

In 2009 the Atlanta, Georgia metro area has experienced a tremendous amount of hail storms causing hail damage to homes and cars across the Metro Atlanta area.

Hail has ranged from pea sized, dime sized, quarter sized, golf ball sized, and even baseball sized resulting in thousands of homes and cars damaged from these hail storms.

While car damage is evident, homeowners often fail to realize that hail damage has occurred on their roof. The impact of hail damage to your roof can be quite expensive if you don’t have your home inspected and repaired quickly. Roof leaks, Wood Rot, Mold, and wall damage are just a few problems which can occur to your home if you have a hail damaged roof.

It is the homeowner’s responsibility to ensure that their home is protected if hail damage has occurred. In many cases your homeowners insurance will pay for full replacement of your roof (less deductible) if you’ve experienced hail damage. If you wait until you notice water leaks from your roof you may have waited too long to have your roof replacement covered by your insurance company.

Your insurance company will not contact you to remind you to have your home inspected. In fact, in many cases your insurance company and adjusters will try to prove just the opposite…that your roof is not damaged enough to warrant a claim being paid, or your claim amount should only cover the bare minimum for repair of your hail damaged roof.

If you have had hailstorms in your area you need a qualified professional to inspect your home and represent YOU during the entire claims and re-roof process.

At HOME ASSET PROTECTION SERVICES, LLC (HAPS), we do just that.

We offer a FREE inspection of your home to determine if hail damage has occurred to your roof. If damage has occurred, we assist you during the entire claims process by offering the following services:

1. Free Home Inspection for Hail Damage.

2. Assistance in filing and processing a claim with your homeowners insurance company.

3. Meet with insurance adjuster to ensure you receive fair compensation for replacement value of your roof.

4. Upon approval, we meet with you to select quality shingles which protect and beautify your home.

5. Arrange for new roof to be installed from qualified LOCAL roofer, and keep you informed during the entire process.

Let us handle it all to protect your assets. Once approved, the only decisions you will have to make is what color shingles you want and if you want any special upgrades.

If you have had hailstorms in your area, it is very important that you have someone with experience to represent you during this entire process. It is equally important that homeowners act quickly if hail storms have occurred in your area. Insurance companies generally only pay claims within a short period of time from the actual storm. DON’T WAIT UNTIL IT’S TOO LATE!

If you have hail damage and don’t have an inspection done, you could end up having to replace your roof at YOUR expense, and this expense can cost thousands of dollars, quite often with NO ASSISTANCE from your insurance company.

Please have your home inspected if you have had hail storms in your area, especially if you have seen neighbors homes re-roofed recently. Call 404-933-6610 to arrange for a FREE inspection of your home if you suspect hail damage to your home. It could save you thousands of dollars, it can give you piece of mind knowing your roof and your rights are protected, and it can protect one of your most valuable assets….your home.
